'Qair For The Planet' initiative promotes UN sustainability goals

Our team recently took part in the Qair Challenge ‘Qair for the Planet’, a company wide initiative which aimed to promote inclusion and equality within local communities. We partnered with Liverpool-based organisation Elevate EBP, who help to build connections between professionals, educators, and young people to inspire the workforce of tomorrow.

The Qair Challenge, saw Qair teams around the world partnering with local organisations to help promote the UN goals of inclusion and equality.

This challenge aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, a global call to action to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all human beings live in peace and prosperity.

This year’s Qair Challenge aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 10 – Reduced Inequalities, which focuses on empowering and promoting the social, economic and political inclusion of all, regardless of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic status.

These Sustainable Development Goals provide a blueprint for a brighter future, establishing a global partnership to improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

This year, 16 Qair agencies around the world took part in ‘Qair for the Planet’, all working together to reduce inequality and make a positive difference in their local communities.

Our Contribution

Taking part in the Qair challenge, our Liverpool team worked closely with Elevate EBP to provide young people aged 14–16 from disadvantaged backgrounds with opportunities to explore careers in renewable energy.

Elevate EBP is an Education Business Partnership, serving as a collaborative bridge between the education sector and the world of work. They facilitate valuable connections by organising activities such as work placements, mock interviews, and employer encounters, providing students with real-world insights and practical skills. Their work helps to shape the futures of young people across the Liverpool City Region.

One of our developers, Sam Burgess, visited a local high school to talk with students, sharing insights into the renewables industry, and the diverse career paths available to young people across the sector.

Working closely with Elevate EBP, a selected group of students visited our office to explore careers in renewable energy, gaining valuable insight into how each of our departments operates, including Finance, Legal, Marketing & Acquisitions, and Grid.

The students were tasked with designing their own solar farms, considering real-world constraints that our developers face when planning sites, such as ecology, flooding and grid connection. Our developers then brought these designs to life using professional design software, allowing students to see 3D models of their concepts.

This year’s Qair Challenge allowed us to make a meaningful difference by empowering and inspiring the next generation, helping to promote inclusion, opportunity, and equal access to career pathways. By offering first-hand insight into the renewable energy industry, we demonstrated how young people can play an active role in building a cleaner, more sustainable future for everyone.

A massive thank you to all the students who took part, displaying their creativity, curiosity and problem-solving skills throughout the ‘Design Your Own Solar Farm’ challenge and during their visit to our offices. Their enthusiasm reinforces why initiatives like this are so important, to enable young people to see what is possible in our industry.

Across the wider Qair Group, teams have stepped up to support their communities to create meaningful, lasting impact that makes a real difference.
