Qair UK, operating as Green Switch Capital, are thrilled to announce that we have received planning consent for a 49.9 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) at Middleton Farm, near Potterton, Aberdeenshire. The project was approved by Aberdeenshire Council on 1 July 2025, with planning support provided by Locogen.
Covering approximately 1.3 hectares, Middleton Farm Energy Storage Facility will enable the import and export of up to 49.9 MW of electricity to the local grid. The facility will support grid stability and enhance the efficiency of renewable energy generation during periods of high demand.
In line with our commitment to environmental stewardship, the development includes biodiversity enhancements such as native tree and scrub planting. A comprehensive landscaping plan and transport strategy have also been developed to minimise local impacts and protect surrounding wildlife.
“This is a landmark moment for Qair UK as we expand into standalone energy storage,” said Pete McLaren, our Head of Scottish Development. “Battery storage is critical to unlocking the full potential of renewables in the UK, and we’re proud to contribute to a more resilient and flexible energy system.”
This marks our first consented standalone battery storage project in the UK, building on our growing portfolio which now includes over 140 MW of solar capacity consented in the past 18 months.
Congratulations to our team for all their hard work on this project!
