Ayre Offshore Wind Farm is a proposed 1 GW floating offshore wind project located to the east of Orkney in the Scottish Highlands.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 1.2 million UK homes, supporting national energy security and Scotland’s net zero ambitions.
The wind turbines will be installed on floating foundations, anchored to the seabed, enabling development in deeper waters where wind resources are strongest.
Ayre is currently in the development phase, with both onshore planning and offshore consent applications submitted to the relevant authorities, reflecting key milestones in the project’s progress. Subject to securing the necessary consents, construction is anticipated to commence around 2030. For the latest updates and project milestones, visit Ayre’s LinkedIn page.
